About Brittney

Just A Small Town Girl
I grew up in Franklin County, which is about 20 minutes south of Roanoke, VA. Growing up in a rural town was a lot of fun. There were farms all around me and I loved to run bare foot through the fields during the summer. Boht of my parents worked in Roanoke, so I went to school in Roanoke as well at William Byrd High School. I played softball and volleyball all my life and miss both terribly. I spent my weekends growing up at Smith Mountain Lake. My grandparents had a house there so every weekend of every summer my entire family would pack up and spend the weekend there. It was at the lake that I acquired my love for water and being out in the sun.
College Life
I am a junior Communication major here at Virginia Tech. I am concentrating on Public Relations and would love to eventually do sports PR. I am also minoring in Professional Writing. I have been actively invovled across campus since arriving here in 2005. A few of the clubs I am invovled in are:
- Student Alumni Association-a branch of the Alumni Association. All of the students serve as liasions between the alumni and students. SAA members also help with different activities across campus and the community.
- Public Relations Student Society of America-VT PRSSA is a club for those concentrating in the field of Public Relations or those who are just interested in it. I love this club because it is a great way for me to learn more about PR as well as network with different PR professionals around the area
- PlanetBlacksburg-Planet Blacksburg is a student run online media outlet. All of the articles on the website are written, edited, and published by students. It's a great way to get my work out there!
While here at Virginia Tech I have gotten a lot of real world experience in field of Communications. One big exerience is being the beat writer for the Softball team for PlanetBlacksburg.com. I have covered numerous games and done meltiple stories to on the team.
Another big experience I have had here at Virginia Tech is my internship with VTTI. I have gotten to work closely with the Communication Team and help with media visits, school days, editing grants and proposals, and conducting media scanning.
Girls Just Wanna Have Fun
When I'm not studying or attending meetings for the many things I'm invovled in, I just want to have fun. Some of the things I do here at Virginia Tech to relax and have fun are shopping, working out, hanging out with friends, laying in the sun (the 3 months a year it's warm enough here to do that!), and of course, Hokie Sports. I have always loved sports, especially football, so needless to say I live for football season and Hokie Football! I'm really just your typical 21 year old college girl who knows how to get her work done but enjoy life at the same time.
