Job Description: Assistantships are available to support graduate research in Plant Pathology. Either potential M.S. or Ph.D. students are invited to apply. The research will be conducted at Virginia Tech’s Eastern Shore Agricultural Research and Extension Center located on the Delmarva Peninsula in Painter, VA. Classwork required for the completion of the degree will be conducted at Virginia Tech’s campus in Blacksburg, VA. The primary focus of the research is flexible but will be conducted on diseases of vegetable crops (tomato, potato, cucurbits, or snap beans). Projects that focus on epidemiology, particularly diseases of snap beans, are of the greatest interest. Potential students should have interests in applied plant pathology, diagnostics, epidemiology/disease forecasting, and/or extension type activities. Assistantships are available as early as Summer/Fall 2006. Job Requirements: Potential students should preferably have a B.S. or M.S. in agricultural or life sciences. Applicants should be self motivated and disciplined and possess good communication skills.
